Facts on the ground prove that the Syrian regime has been manipulating Yarmouk Camp reconstruction file to blackmail Palestinian factions and refugees in the war-torn country.
Over recent years, the Syrian government stipulated that the Palestine Embassy in Damascus remove debris from residential alleyways and pay the required sums.
UNRWA’s funding deficit along with the failure of Palestinian factions to take charge of the reconstruction file have impeded the return of families to the camp. At the same time, mismanagement by Damascus Governorate and absence of serious action regarding property-theft have added bad to worse.
According to the local reconstruction committee, nearly 60% of buildings are uninhabitable, including 20% which have been completely destroyed in the conflict.
