UNRWA Extends the Cash Aid Distribution (Shelter Allowance) for the Palestinians of Syria in Lebanon

Turning to Lebanon, UNRWA announced that it was able to extend the time for providing cash assistance to cover the basic needs of Palestinian refugees coming from Syria who are eligible to obtain this aid, including till the end of October 2016, by contributions of donors in support of the program of cash assistance through emergency appeal for Syria (2016).

UNRWA said in its statement that the total monthly cash aid for the Palestinian Syrians in Lebanon, who are eligible for cash assistance will be as follows: Forty thousand Lebanese pounds ($ 27) for food allowance per capita, noting that such assistance will continue until the end of 2016, in addition to a monthly aid with $ 100 as shelter allowance per family to secure the basic needs.

This aid will be provided till the end of October 2016, noting that UNRWA has announced previously that it would provide shelter allowance for the Palestinians of Syria in Lebanon for 4 months starting from March till June 2016 following an urgent appeal for Syria in 2016.

In the meantime, UNRWA had cut off shelters allowance $ 100 for displaced families under the pretext of a lack of funding and the failure of donor countries to provide assistance. UNRWA has also reduced the amount of food aid of 45 thousand Lebanese pounds to 40 thousand LP, as well as monetary aid suspended for 1200 Palestinian Syrian families since October 2014.
