The Palestinian Embassy envoy to Turkey said, following a visit to the Turkish cities of Kilis, Mersin, Antakya, Iskenderun, Osmaniye, and Rihanli, that the Palestinian Interior Ministry decided to grant 300 passports to Palestinians from Syria for free. Fees for issuing a Palestinian passport are estimated at around 50 Euros.
Procedures have been underway to deliver the passports from the Ankara-based embassy to the places of residence of the concerned refugees in an attempt to assuage the socio-economic crises endured by the Palestinian refugee community displaced from Syria.
According to unofficial data, 5,000 to 8,000 Palestinian refugees have entered Turkey, mostly through illegal routes following the closed-door immigration policy enforced by Turkey since 2013.
