The Syrian government patrols deployed at checkpoints pitched around Khan AlSheih have been banning civilians from returning to their homes, in contravention of the reconciliation deal struck with the opposition outfits that retreated from Khan AlSheih.
The deal stipulated that the opposition outfits retreat from Khan AlSheih and its environs and that the government squads lift the blockade and allow civilians’ access into their shelters.
Students and workers are allowed to leave the camp on condition that they put down their names on special lists at one of the offices run by the Palestine Liberation Army.
One month earlier, senior government officials pledged to unblock Khan AlSheih access roads, rehabilitate the infrastructure and restore power, water, and telecommunication, among other vital services.
