Lebanese Security Forces Shut Doors of Palestinian, Syrian Shops

Lebanese news outlets said the General Security Directorate has embarked on a large-scale campaign in Tripoli and Minieh-Denieh districts to close shops owned by Syrian migrants and Palestinians from Syria.

The campaign targeted shops owned or rented by Syrians and Palestinians who have been illegally taking shelter in Lebanon. A number of shops were shut using red wax.

Sometime earlier, the Lebanese security forces closed all shops used by illegal migrants from war-torn Syria in Sur, south of Lebanon. Shopkeepers and employers who provide labor for illegal migrants from Syria received penalty threats.

Nearly 31,000 Palestinian refugees from Syria have sought shelter in Lebanon, where they have been grappling with dire living conditions due to their lack of access to the local labor market and the absence of vital services, most notably health care and education.
