478 Palestinian Women, Girls Killed in War-Torn Syria

Statistics released by AGPS on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, observed on November 25, documented the death of 478 Palestinian women and girls all the way through Syria’s eight-year conflict, making 16% of the overall death toll for the period from March 2011 until November 25, 2018.

The list includes 230 female refugees who died under shelling; 67 who died as a result of the blockade and medical neglect in Yarmouk Camp; and 28 others who were fatally shot by snipers.

37 female refugees were, meanwhile, killed in blasts; 24 were gunned down; 26 drowned at sea; five female refugees were executed; 34 were tortured to death in Syrian prisons; and 20 others died of other reasons, including murder, assassination, suicide, suffocation, health setbacks, and Israeli bullet fire.

As for the geographical distribution of the victims, Damascus topped the list with 154 female refugees, followed by Rif Dimashq, with 149 casualties. 20 others died in Aleppo, including nine in AlNeirab Camp, three in Handarat Camp, two at Aleppo University, one female refugee in Hanano neighborhood, and another while standing in a bread line.

65 female Palestinian refugees also died in Daraa, among them 36 in Daraa Camp, 11 in AlMuzeireeb town, four in AlYadouda town, and two in Daraa AlBalad.

Eight Palestinian women and girls were, meanwhile, pronounced dead in Hums, one woman in Hama, and another in AlRamal Camp, in Latakia.
