Severe crises rocked Yarmouk Camp in 2018 owing to the bloody shootouts between ISIS, AlNusra Front, and the pro-government battalions.
The situation took a dramatic turn for the worse following a military offensive launched by the Syrian government battalions in an attempt to force ISIS and Tahrir AlSham gunmen out of the area.
An operation launched by the government battalions, in partnership with the Russian squads, on April 19, 2018 on Yarmouk Camp, AlTadhamun neighborhood, AlKadam, and AlHajar AlAswad, led to the destruction of 60% of civilian structures and the death of dozens of civilians.
On May 21, 2018, shortly after the Syrian government held sway over the camp, pro-government militias burglarized civilian homes in and around Yarmouk.
During the last quarter of 2018, efforts were launched by local committees to remove debris and rehabilitate the camp. However, the displaced families have not been allowed to return to their homes.
