UNRWA Pledges to Meet Demands of Palestinians from Syria in Jordan

The Committee of the Displaced Palestinians from Syria in Jordan said it has received a positive response by UNRWA officials in Amman over the refugees’ demands.

The committee’s representatives said a meeting will be held with UNRWA’s director of operations in Jordan Roger Davies to discuss the list of demands which have been voiced by the refugees during recent vigils.

The committee said a rally set to be staged on Sunday was cancelled following the agency’s response, adding that it will brief the concerned parties about the results of the projected meeting.

Over recent days, Palestinian refugees from Syria rallied outside UNRWA office in Amman, urging the agency to shell out its monthly aids, including fuel, power/water, and shelter allowances.

Over 17,000 Palestinian refugees have sought shelter in Jordan, fleeing war-torn Syria.

According to AGPS data, 85,000 Palestinian refugees from Syria also fled to Europe while 31,000 headed for Lebanon. 35,000 more refugees have sought shelter in Egypt, 8,000 in Turkey, and 1,000 in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
