Stranded Students Transferred to Schools Outside of Yarmouk Camp

Palestinian students taking shelter in Yarmouk Camp were transferred to schools outside of the camp, according to Yarmouk’s education chief Waleed AlKurdi.

Palestinian students enrolled at schools located in AlZahira and AlMayadeen neighborhoods, adjacent to Yarmouk Camp, often walk for over two kilometers under scorching heat in the summer or freezing temperatures in the winter to reach their destinations. Families sheltered outside of the camp are forced to pay costly prices to drivers of privately-owned vehicles in order to transfer their children to schools.

Some 280 families taking refuge in Yarmouk returned to the camp, from which they were displaced, following a consent by the Syrian authorities. Dozens of other displaced families have, meanwhile, been denied access to the camp.
