The Syrian Minister of Public Works and Housing Suhail Abdul Latif announced the launch of works to rehabilitate infrastructure and allow displaced families to return to their homes in Yarmouk Camp and the adjacent AlTadhamun neighborhood, south of Damascus.
Speaking with pro-government news outlets, Abdul Latif said preliminary measures will be put into effect sometime soon in order to give way to the families’ return, pending the launch of major reconstruction projects.
Over recent days, eye-witnesses said pro-government workers have been removing rubble from Street 30 in Yarmouk Camp and stealing civilians’ property.
The Syrian government forces regained control over Yarmouk Camp and southern Damascus towns following a 33-day military operation launched on April 21, 2018. Dozens of civilians were killed and over 80% of buildings have been destroyed.
