E-Campaign Speaks Up for Victims of Torture in Syrian Dungeons

The network of Palestinian refugee Camps “Shamekh” embarked on an e-campaign on Facebook in an attempt to mobilize action regarding the victims of torture, detainees, and victims of enforced disappearance in war-torn Syria.

The campaigners called on activists, news agencies, and civil society representatives to post and share tweets and statements using the Arabic hashtag #شهيد_تحت_التعذيب (casualty under torture) and post comments and photos of casualties and missing persons.

The campaigners said thousands of Palestinian refugees have been secretly locked up in Syrian state jails, where hundreds of others have also been tortured to death.

The campaign has started to garner widespread support, with Palestinian and Syrian activists calling for the prosecution of war criminals in Syria and for the immediate release of the detainees and the victims of forced disappearance.
