Residents of Daraa Camp for Palestinian refugees, south of Syria, continue to sound distress signals over the absence of health services and life-saving medical kit. Most of the clinics and medical centers in the area have gone out of operation in the warfare.
Reporting from southern Syria, an AGPS correspondent said UNRWA’s clinic has not been reconstructed yet, leaving hundreds of civilians without medical treatment.
UNRWA clinics and health centers have gone out of operation in the government-held Daraa Camp, exacerbating the health conditions of hundreds of displaced Palestinians taking refuge in the area.
Over 600 Palestinian families taking shelter in Daraa Camp, south of Syria, have been subjected to dire conditions. Dozens of sick and elderly civilians face mountainous journeys trying to reach AlKashef area for treatment.
All the way through Syria’s eight-year conflict, residents of Daraa Camp have been grappling with a chronic water blackout, which has been ongoing from the time the opposition outfits seized the camp until the Syrian government forces regained control over it.
At the same time, the residents have lashed out at the local authorities for dragging their feet over their appeals for rehabilitating infrastructure and sanitation networks.
The residents said the poor sanitation networks and improper sewage disposal, which they attributed to the frequent blackouts and maintenance works in the area, have brought about an acute damage on their health and property.
Founded in 1950-1951, Daraa Camp is home to over 650 displaced Palestinian families. As many as 4,500 families used to take shelter in the camp prior to the outbreak of the conflict in 2011.
