Palestinians of Syria Slam Tough Citizenship Conditions Set by Turkey

The Turkish government stipulated that Palestinian refugees with Palestinian travel documents wishing to obtain Turkish citizenship must be owners of a property worth 250,000 USD, have a fixed investment capital of 500,000 USD, and deposit a sum 500,000 USD in Turkish banks.

Palestinian refugees from Syria said such criteria can never be met by the Palestinian refugees who have been struggling for survival due to the dire humanitarian conditions they have gone through.

Unofficial statistics indicate that 8,000 Palestinians from Syria have sought shelter in Turkey, where they have been facing squalid socio-economic conditions and denied access to the local labor market.

Turkish embassies continue to prevent Palestinian refugees from Syria from obtaining visas. As a result, hundreds of Palestinians have embarked on life-threatening journeys via illegal immigration roads to reach Turkey.
