Residents of Palestinian Displacement Camp in Syria Summoned to Questioning

A number of civilians taking shelter in AlNeirab refugee camp were summoned for interrogation over recent Facebook posts.

A resident who was summoned for interrogation told an AGPS reporter that the posts tackled social rather than political matters.

Over recent years, several Palestinian refugees have been chased down by Syrian security forces over alleged “cyber crimes”.

In early 2011, the Syrian regime passed Law N°26 in an attempt to quell cyber freedom and politicized social media posts.

Cybercrimes can be defined as: "Offences that are committed against inpiduals or groups of inpiduals with a criminal motive to intentionally harm the reputation of the victim or cause physical or mental harm, or loss, to the victim directly or indirectly, using modern telecommunication networks such as Internet (networks including chat rooms, emails, notice boards and groups) and mobile phones (Bluetooth/SMS/MMS)".
