The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has abruptly suspended cash assistance for Palestinian refugees from Syria in Lebanon due to the overcrowding and chaos that occurred at aid distribution centers.
In a statement, UNRWA’s director of Lebanon operations Claudio Cordone said the suspension will be put into effect until further notice and includes all cash aids allotted to the refugees including those distributed at Bob Finance bank offices.
The Agency pledged to resume aid delivery sometime in the near future and to reconsider its distribution mechanisms so as to ensure that all registered refugees received their cash grants.
