Academics Push for End to Conspiracies against Yarmouk Camp

A group of Palestinian academics, journalists, and activists issued a joint statement condemning the new organizational plan issued by Damascus Governorate a few weeks ago to rehabilitate Yarmouk Camp.

The statement said the new organizational plan makes part of a “suspicious” agenda aiming to blur the historical significance of the camp for the Palestinian refugee community.

The statement added that over the past ten years Yarmouk Camp has been subjected to a preplanned and systematic deprivation tactic aiming to further displace the Palestinian refugee population. As a result, the residents have been made to endure starvation, the blockade, destruction, and homelessness.

It said the new plan will turn the camp into a small neighborhood in Damascus and blur 50% of its geo-historical identity determined by the 2004 chart.

The signatories urged all concerned institutions and authorities to stop all attempts to wipe out Yarmouk and all other Palestinian camps in Syria pending a just solution to the refugee plight.
