Four members of the Palestinian Daoud family have been enduring mysterious fates in Syrian state-run prisons.
The four family members are: Nour Ahmad Daoud, born in 1987, a resident of AlHajar AlAswad area, and the father of a young girl. He was kidnapped in 2013; Daoud Ahmad Daoud, born in 1986, a resident of AlHajar AlAswad, and the father of two boys and a girl. He was kidnapped at the Batikha checkpoint.
The list also includes the two brothers Mahmoud Mohamed Kheir Daoud, born in 1996, and Ali Mohamed Kheir Daoud, born in 1998. Both are residents of AlHajar AlAswad and were kidnapped in 2014 from AlDweilaa area, in Damascus.
Over 1,790 Palestinian refugees have been secretly held in Syrian government dungeons since the outburst of deadly hostilities.
AGPS also documented the death of over 600 Palestinian refugees under torture in Syrian government lock-ups, including women, children, and elderly civilians.
Affidavits by ex-detainees provided evidence on the involvement of Syrian government officers in harsh torture tactics, including electric shocks, heavy beating using whips and iron sticks, and sexual abuse against Palestinian detainees, in a flagrant violation of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, commonly known as the United Nations Convention against Torture (UNCAT).
AGPS continues to urge the Syrian government to disclose the fate of scores of Palestinians held in its lock-ups, release the bodies of those tortured to death, seriously work on halting harsh torture tactics, launch fact-finding probes into crimes of torture, and to bring those involved in such crimes before courts.
