Palestinian Ambassador in Syria Dr. Samir AlRefai said some 5,000 Palestinian Authority passports were handed over to Palestinian refugees in Syria.
He said an increasing number of refugees have applied for Palestinian-Authority passports as a number of Gulf States denied granting visas to Palestinian holders of travel documents issued in their countries of residence.
He denied claims that the Palestinian Authority’s policy leads to the displacement of more Palestinians from Syria, saying 200,000 refugees have fled the country so far and sought asylum in other destinations.
