Anti-Bullying Event Held by UNRWA in Khan Dannun Camp

A so-called “Together for a Better Future” event was held at the UNRWA-run Jericho School in Khan Dannun Camp for Palestinian refugees, in Rif Dimashq.

The move marks the International Day against Violence and Bullying at School including Cyberbullying. It also makes part of UNRWA’s anti-bullying program, held in partnership with psychiatrists and teaching staff.

The protracted trauma of living under shelling took its toll on many schoolchildren in the embattled Syrian territories. Such events help students, including Palestinian refugee students, overcome the heavy toll of the dire humanitarian condition.

Bullying is the use of force, coercion, or threat, to abuse, aggressively dominate or intimidate. It is a form of aggressive behavior intended to hurt another inpidual, physically, mentally, or emotionally. Bullying is characterized by hostile intent, imbalance of power, and repetition over a period of time. It ranges from one-on-one, inpidual bullying through to group bullying, called mobbing. Bullying in school and the workplace is also referred to as "peer abuse".
