Palestinian Refugees in Syria Distressed as Gov’t Lifts Subsidies on Basic Goods

Palestinian refugees have voiced their deep concern over their abject humanitarian condition, saying the situation has taken a turn for the worse after the Syrian government ended subsidies on basic items.

As part of the new measure, a break pack is to be sold at 1,300 Syrian pounds, a liter of fuel at 1,700, gasoline at 2,500 a liter, and a gas cylinder at 30,600.

The government will end subsidies for 596,628 families (15% of families) having nearly 450,000 cars (47% of private cars).
