For 1st Time in 10 Years, Eid Prayers Held in Yarmouk Camp for Palestinian Refugees

For 1st Time in 10 Years, Eid Prayers Held in Yarmouk Camp for Palestinian Refugees

Residents of Yarmouk Camp for Palestinian refugees held their Eid prayers at Abdul Kader AlHusaini Mosque for the first time in years.

On August 10, 2021, the Syrian Ministry of Endowment okayed the reopening of Abdul Kader AlHusaini Mosque and called on staff to work on removing debris and cleaning the mosque basement, pending the rehabilitation of daily congregational prayers.

Back in 2012, onslaughts launched by the Syrian fighter jets on Abdul Kader AlHusaini Mosque in Yarmouk camp for Palestinian refugees claimed the lives of dozens of worshipers and civilians, including children.

At the time of the attack, the mosque served as a shelter for hundreds of families who fled the deadly strikes on the camp.

The event marked the largest mass exodus from Palestinian refugee camps in Syria. Only a handful of families regained access to the camp, after the government forces recaptured the area.
