Palestinian Businessman Achieves Booming Career in Sweden

Palestinian refugee Mohaned Badawi has achieved an outstanding career in Sweden, where he established several companies and restaurant chains.

Mohaned was born and raised in Damascus, where his father worked as a merchant. He studied computer science in the U.S.A before he moved to Sweden.

He founded his first company in 1991 and got later involved in importing halal meat and poultry. In 2003, he established a factory for roasting and packing nuts, the first of its kind in Sweden. In 2009, he established a company specialized in the production of nuts and dried fruits.

He established a so-called DAMAS restaurant in 2014 in Helsingborg. Two year later, he established the first factory for roasting nuts in Qatar. In 2017, he established a sweets factory. He opened another restaurant in the city of Malmö, in southern Sweden.

In 2006, he won the best company award in Helsingborg twice. He also won the DI Gazelle award, which is granted to flourishing companies. In 2008, he received the Pioneer Company award. Sometime later, he was invited to meet the Swedish king for his booming projects, before he accompanied a delegation from the Swedish Ministry of Trade for a visit to Damascus in 2009.
