The Neirab camp is entering a new chapter after the "Military Operations Administration" affiliated with the Syrian armed opposition factions took control, as part of the "Deterrence of Aggression" operation announced by the opposition, during which they seized vast areas in northern Syria, including the Neirab and Handarat camps for Palestinian refugees in Aleppo.
The security situation
The military operations administration entered on the afternoon of November 30, 2024, without any battles or clashes with any party and exited. In contrast, the commander of the Quds Brigade, "Mohammed Al-Saeed," and the brigade fighters fled the Nairab camp, along with those affiliated with the Iranian faction in the camp, following the approach of the Syrian opposition forces to the area.
Then, the opposition forces entered the camp again and announced through the mosque loudspeakers that the camp was safe, and that anyone who entered their home was safe and anyone who entered the mosque was safe, affirming brotherhood with the camp's residents after the era of the Quds Brigade, Al-Saeed, and others had ended.
The administrative situation
Activists confirmed the existence of military and political directives issued to armed factions, coordinated by Palestinian entities in northern Syria, to manage the situation in the Nairab camp and negotiate with the camp's notables to prevent clashes and coordinate administrative efforts. For their part, the notables and intellectuals of the camp held a meeting at the invitation of several activists, aiming to form a committee and select a representative to facilitate work and communication with the Syrian opposition.
The residents' stance
A number of residents of the Nairab camp expressed their relief at this step, pointing to what they described as the "atrocious practices" committed by the Quds Brigade during its presence in the camp. The residents expressed their hope for security and stability to prevail after their departure. On the other hand, some expressed their fear of potential retaliatory actions that might target them due to the actions committed by the brigade's members against the Syrian people.
Living conditions
The Nairab camp has been suffering from electricity, water, and bread shortages since the opposition took control. Residents are facing shortages of many essential items, including bread and diesel for running electricity generators. Additionally, the closure of commercial shops due to fears of the new security and administrative situations has increased the residents' suffering, leading them to prefer staying at home.
