The stories of the suffering of Palestinian refugees in Syria vary and differ, stemming from the ongoing war since 2011, ranging from displacement, homelessness, and seeking refuge in new and old tents and camps, to victims of shelling, sniping, death under torture in Syrian prisons, or death on migration routes. Among these painful stories is that of the Palestinian refugee "Hossam Al-Kabra," who lived as a stranger and died alone in Lebanon.
Hossam al-Kabra, born in the Yarmouk Camp in Damascus in 1968, fled to Lebanon escaping the war and searching for a new life. While trying to secure his family's livelihood, he was involved in a car accident at 8 PM on November 22, 2024, on the Safra Highway in Jounieh, east of Beirut, and died as a result.
Instead of helping Hassan, the perpetrator fled and was not apprehended. The victim's body remained for more than three hours before being transported by the Civil Defense teams to the government hospital in Bouar. His brother, Maher, received the body and requested to bury his brother according to the customs in the Beddawi camp in Tripoli, northern Lebanon.
Hossam, the Palestinian refugee displaced from Syria, left his pregnant wife and a one-year-old daughter without a provider. Activists launched an urgent appeal to cover the costs of his wife's childbirth, as she will give birth to their new baby soon. She has accumulated unpaid rent and various expenses that she could not meet.
One suffering after another is narrated by the stations of refuge and the oppression of Palestinian refugees from Syria, exacerbated by the war in Syria and the war on Lebanon, which displaced thousands of them. According to the UNRWA database, the number of Palestinian refugees from Syria in Lebanon is approximately 23,000, equivalent to 4,800 families, distributed across the five regions of Lebanese cities in varying proportions.
