Handarat Camp. The residents are appealing to the opposition to provide basic services

Action Group | Aleppo

The residents of the Handarat Palestinian refugee camp in Aleppo appealed to the military and service administration affiliated with the Syrian opposition for urgent intervention to improve the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the camp, which suffers from a severe shortage of all basic services. The residents confirmed that the camp lacks drinking water, electricity, and household gas, in addition to the urgent need to secure food aid, describing the situation as "catastrophic."

According to a reporter from the Action Group for Palestinians of Syria in Aleppo, more than 60 families out of the 75 families that were residing in the camp left before the arrival of the Syrian opposition forces in the Handarat area. The reporter added that the camp has become almost empty of its residents, which increases the challenges facing efforts to rebuild it and provide essential services to the families that remained or intend to return.

These appeals come in light of recent field developments, as the Syrian opposition has managed to make significant ground progress in the past few days. The opposition announced its complete control over the city of Aleppo, which was considered a strategic turning point in the conflict. The military advance did not stop there, as the opposition continued its progress towards Hama province, announcing yesterday its control over the city of Masyaf.

Observers believe that the control over Aleppo and Hama reflects a significant change in the balance of power on the ground. However, the biggest challenge for the opposition lies in managing the areas that have come under its control and ensuring the stability of the humanitarian situation for the residents who are living in difficult conditions as a result of years of war.

The residents of Handarat Camp are urging the responsible authorities in the opposition to pay greater attention to improving living conditions in the camp, emphasizing that a swift response would be a glimmer of hope for rebuilding a stable life amid the ongoing changes in the region.
