Hosh Space detainees released after unsubstantiated charges

Action Group | Damascus

Exclusive sources told the Action Group for Palestinians of Syria that the General Security released detainees from the Hosh Spies community on Saturday morning, March 15, after they were arrested as part of an investigation into thefts that took place at the Iranian embassy.
The sources indicated that the accusations were not supported by any evidence, but were based on unconfirmed information that residents of the community were involved in the incident.
Reports confirmed that the detainees were subjected, at the beginning of the investigations, to treatment described as intimidating and frightening, similar to the methods used by the former regime. However, they were not beaten during their detention, and after investigation and confirmation of their innocence, they were released.
The General Security forces had launched a large-scale arrest campaign in the middle of the night before yesterday, targeting between 30 and 50 Palestinians from the community. Exclusive sources explained to the group that the raids included people of all ages, including the elderly, and they were transferred to the General Security headquarters without any official justification for the arrests.
Sources linked the campaign to the storming of the Iranian embassy in December 2024, which included the theft of financial contents. However, eyewitnesses from the neighborhood denied the accusations, explaining that what happened on the day of the storming was merely a celebration among residents, expressing feelings of anger and joy over the fall of the embassy, especially since many residents of the community had lost relatives in Syrian regime prisons.
It is worth noting at the Hosh Space community was established following the 1948 Palestinian Nakba in the Mezzeh area of Damascus, where Palestinian refugees from several families originally from Haifa and its surrounding areas settled. The community is considered one of the areas that bears a historical legacy linked to the forced displacement of Palestinians.
