After Two Palestinians were killed by the Egyptian Navy, International Organizations Call Egypt to Respect its Commitments towards the Palestinians of Syria

Geneva _ Cairo

Four International Human Rights Organizations Condemned, what they assumed systematic targeting by the Egyptian authorities towards the Palestinians of Syria in its territories, who estimated with about 10,000 refugees, calling Cairo to respect its commitments towards the refugees, according to the International law.

The organizations have warned, in a joint statement, on Thursday, 19th of September, of the rising pace of restrictions on Palestinians of Syria who fled to Egypt to escape the armed conflict, especially after the two of them were shot dead when Egyptian Navy opened fire towards an illegal immigration boat in front of Alexandria coast on last Tuesday.

The statement considered that the Egyptian authorities used unjustified force against unarmed civilians, violating the basic rules of international human rights law, particularly the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, particularly the right to life as stated in Article VI of the Covenant, a right which may not be spurning except in cases of extreme emergency.

The four human rights organizations demanded to immediately allow the representatives of the International Red Cross to visit detainees at Abu Qir military base, and to stop use of lethal force against civilians, including punishing those who commit these abuses.

Meanwhile, Sandra Ouain, a researcher at the Euro -Med Observer for human rights, commented at the accident of assassinating refugees in the middle of the sea that it  is not attached to the Egyptian treatment system with the Palestinians of Syria, while this treatment revealed a severe carelessness about them, and a cruel discrimination while they are not treated as Syrian refugees, since they were banned of High commissioner for refugees services and were exposed to incitation by media and those who are in charge.

She also added that, 10.000 Palestinians in Egypt do not have the care of any international agencies, as well as they were prevented of having jobs or enroll their children at schools, in addition that hundreds of them are threatened by forced deportation to Syria in the pretext of expiring visas, in a way that violated all International law norms.

The statement ended with a call from each of, international community, UNHCR, and UNRWA to make a comprehensive settlement to the file of the Palestinians of Syria inside Egypt in a way to guarantee their rights as refugees and to provide them security protection and well life. Noted that Egypt should show complete respect towards these refugees according to the international agreements, which Egypt is a part of them, especially the signed agreements on 1951, that was organized by UNHCR around the world.

It is mentioned that the organizations which signed this statement are: Euro-Med observer “Geneva”, the Action Group for Palestinians of Syria “London”, the Palestinian Refugee Rights Center “Istanbul”, and Palestinian Return Center “London”.
