The Syrian Security Continues Arresting Some Palestinian Medical Cadres and still Reticent about their Fate

Syrian security forces continue arresting a group of Palestinian medical staff and keep their fate unknown, while a number of them died due to torture in its prisons under the pretext of providing medical and humanitarian help for the residents of the camp and the wounded from neighboring regions.

 AGPS documented a number of detainees doctors; their fate is still unknown; they are:

• Palestinian Syrian refugee doctor, "Ala'a Qassem Hamid", 67- year- old, a doctor in general surgery and a professor at the Faculty of Human Medicine at the University of Damascus. He served as a Head for the general surgery department at Al-Assad University Hospital and was arrested by the Syrian regime forces after they raided his clinic in the Yarmouk camp on 13 August 2012 on charges of treating the wounded.

• Palestinian Syrian refugee doctor "Ala'a Al- Deen Yousif" 62- year- old, a doctor in neurological surgery in the Yarmouk camp. He was arrested from the first checkpoint in the Yarmouk camp on 25 December 2012.

• Palestinian Syrian refugee doctor, "Malik Mohammad Yousif," a graduate of Dentistry, Master in Surgery "fourth year," was arrested by the Syrian regime forces from Damascus University - Faculty of Dentistry on 23 May 2013.

 It is mentioned that the medical staff and institutions in the Yarmouk camp suffered of serious abuses by the Syrian army and security when hospitals and ambulances were targeted sometimes and the medical staff were kidnapped and killed at other times causing the death of dozens of paramedics, nurses, specialists, and pharmacists.

Till now, the Syrian security forces hide the fate of the Palestinian detainees and their numbers in its prisons, while AGPS documented 990 detainee; 421 detainees of them died due to torture in the Syrian prisons.
