Years of war in Syria, and the ongoing conflict becoming heavier on the Palestinian refugees, as the Palestinian Camps and communities were destroyed completely or partially, and at least 3089 Palestinians were killed so far, this has forced tens of thousands to flee internally or to immigrate for asylum.
However, all the roads are closed in front of the Palestinians, they cannot cross any borders legally, especially after the closure of the Lebanese borders for Palestinians at the beginning of the 2014 summer.
The most prominent road was crossing into Turkey illegally, this road from south of Syria to the north to the Turkish borders is full of dangers, dozens lost their lives on this road, however, they say: there’s no other way.
After arriving into Turkey they go to the starting point in the city of Izmir, from which they ride the Aegean Sea to the Greek islands. Over there; lots were subjected to mass drowning, fraud and extortion by smugglers’ gangs and human traffickers. People pay all the money they got for the sake of this journey, hoping to reach to the European paradise.
Western governments and human rights organizations triggered the alarm due to the large number of drowning incidents, described this situation as "mass suicide" where dozens riding a rubber boat for hours at sea.
Most of those immigrants say "we have no options, we want to survive our lives and our children”.
Western governments called for action, tried to deal with the refugees’ influx problem by closing borders some times, prosecuting smugglers other times, and other procedures by which they completely forget or ignore the main cause that prompted them to migrate which is the military actions targeted Palestinian camps.
The war raging in Syria, especially in the last year in 2015, forced thousands of Palestinians and Syrians to illegally immigrate toward neighboring countries or to the EU countries.
Action group for Palestinians of Syria, issued at the beginning of 2016 a statistical report mentioned that 280.000 Palestinians were displaced internally in Syria, while at least 71.206 reached to Europe, 42.500 in Lebanon, 15.000 in Jordan, 8.000 in Turkey, 6.000 in Egypt, and 1000 in the besieged Gaza Strip.
This large and frightening numbers indicate the size of the suffering Palestinian-Syrian were subjected to, this reminds us with what had happened previously to the Palestinian refugees in Iraq after the US-British military operations, not forgetting the militias atrocities, and also the migration of tens of thousands of Palestinians from Lebanon in the seventies and eighties due to the civil war and the Israeli invasion.
