On the International Women’s Day: 444 Palestinian Women Killed In Syria Amid Complicated Plight Over The Past Five Years

Palestinian woman lives in a desperate and enormous suffering since the outbreak of the Syrian conflict; where women constitute 49% of the Palestinian community in Syria. AGPS has documented 444 Palestinian women were killed by shelling, snipers and torture inside the prisons; whereas 75 women detainees are still in enforced disappearance.

Palestinian women refugees were subjected to various of torture in the regime's prisons, where AGPS reported a testimony of a Palestinian detainee after she was released. "Torturing by electrocution, rape and beating by metal sticks" the testimony mentioned. She added that some women had been daily raped by officers and soldiers several times; some of them conceived and some aborted because of severe beating.

AGPS documented names of 34 Palestinian women refugees were tortured to death in the Syrian prisons. Some of the names identified by the leaked photos known as "Caesar Operation". Also, the displacing constituted one of the main problems faced Palestinian families particularly, women. Hundreds of families lost its breadwinner in the horrific bloody war, which put burdens on the woman's shoulder under extreme circumstances. In many cases, woman became the only responsible of securing basics of her family from food to the housing to other endless needs. In addition, the immigration has brought about clear effects in the demographic of the Palestinian communities where the highest price is paid by women.

The Committee of Palestinians from Syria indicated that among 42000 Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, there are 3360 families are maintained by women. AGPS has listed 33 Palestinian women died on their way to Europe as immigrants. The number pided to 9 were killed in Egypt, 10 in Libya, 6 in Turkey, 3 in Greece, 2 off the Italian coast and 1 in Malta. In Lebanon, it was documented one suicide where (R.A) jumped from the third floor in Lebanese city of Sidon in 4 February 2014.

It is worth noting that some traditions and customs in the Palestinian community, such as fearing of defamation, prevented families from reporting some accidents of missing or kidnapping girls. This makes the documented numbers are less than the actual ones.
