Hundreds of activists around the world, from London, Paris, Berlin, Beirut, Singapore and San Francisco performed, at the same time, electronic demonstrations demanding to reveal the fate of the Palestinian Syrian software programmer Basil Khartabil who is still prisoned in Syrian regime’s jails.
The demonstrators launched the English hashtag #WhereIsBassel, raised photos and slogans demand to release him.
The military investigations had arrested Khartabil on 15 March 2012, detained him for eight months before transferring him to Adra prison in December 2012. During this time, Khartabil was exposed to various kinds of torture and maltreatment, stayed in Adra prison until 3 October 2015 when he managed to deliver a message to his family telling them that he will be transported again to unknown destination. His family expressed its deep concerns about his safety, assuring, at the same time, they have never heard about him since then.
