Sharp Reversal in the Education Level in Al Aedin Camp in Homs due to the Deteriorated Security Situation

In Al Aedin camp in Homs education level witnessed a sharp reversal due to many factors such as the immigration of the experienced teachers due to the deteriorated security situation to search for safety after the escalation of inspection, detention, blackmailing on the name, nationality, and religion. They also immigrated due to the psychological pressure because they were not engaged in the fighting and didn’t join any party which led them to escape though their high salaries that UNRWA paid them. Conversely, the new teachers are not qualified like the experienced teachers; the new teachers started working without having the qualifying courses for education, methodologies, management, and the new education methods that led students to join private centers to strengthen their education which increased the material burdens of the families.

They also emerged the schools due to immigration, displacement, and school leakage where the number of students in each class reached 17 students especially in the ninth grade. It is worthy to mention that the residents of Al Aedin camp believe in the necessity of education and considering it as a main goal. The literacy rates in Al Aedin camp estimate is 95% . There are 6 UNRWA schools in the camp , two of them are preparatory schools “Al-Shajara and Al-Ramla” and 4 elementary schools “ Al Jaish, Al Ras Al Ahmar, Deir Al Asad and Al Barwa” in addition to tow kindergarten “ Al Awda and Baraem Al Aqsa” . Secondary schools, institutes, and universities are exclusively for the Syrian Government.
