Warnings for Families of Palestinian Detainees in the Prisons of the Syrian Regime to be Victims of Fraud and Blackmail

On the other hand, activists warned families of Palestinian detainees in the Syrian regime's prisons of being victims of fraud and extortion carried out by intermediaries, including some lawyers, who claim to know the whereabouts of the detainee in the Syrian security branches in return for cash, since many families of detainees were subjected to fraud and blackmailed by some lawyers.

According to activists, families are subjected to systematic extortion and exploiting of their feelings and their fears on their children who were absent for years, in return of very large sums of money to help identify their children's locations and get them out later. Requested sums of money starting from (2000) US dollar up to (20000) dollars, depending on the charge against the detainee. "

In its report, "Between the Prison and the Grave," Amnesty International accused the Syrian regime and its associates of kidnapping and arresting tens of thousands of civilians, in addition to the gains of the state due to the spread of enforced disappearances, and the emergence of a black market of deceit and deception, taking advantage of the desire of victims' relatives to know the fate of their loved ones who disappeared in exchange for a sum of money.
