Jafra Institution Calls for Commitment of Principles of the Humanitarian International Law Following the Targeting of its Child-Friend Center in Khan Al Shieh Camp

Jafra Foundation called on all parties involved in the military conflict in Syria to abide by the principles of international humanitarian law, especially the principle of humanity and proportionality. This call came following targeting Khan Al Shieh camp in July 4, 2016, the death of victims, the complete destruction of its center, and the destroy of  other civilian houses.

Jafra reported in a statement, that the bombing of the camp, which repeated several times during two weeks. The camp maintained to be clear of militants, while its residents are suffering of difficult humanitarian conditions as a result of the imposed partial siege.

Jafra institution stressed that its child-friend Center in Khan Al Shieh camp is only dedicated to children's activities, provides psychosocial support, recreation programs, and risk education,. The institution is working in Syria five years ago to alleviate the humanitarian suffering in emergencies and disasters and contribute to raising the standard of living in the Palestinian refugee camps in Syria.

At the conclusion of its statement, Jafra appealed to all Palestinian parties and international organizations concerned with the Palestinian issue, to assume their responsibilities and do their duty towards the Palestinian refugees in Syria in general and in Khan Al Shieh camp in particular, to provide the necessary protection, to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian refugees in Syria, and to stop the disaster and ongoing daily tragedy of refugees.

The Independent newspaper, quoted Save the Children for Humanitarian aid, that thousands of children are trapped in the Palestinian refugee camp of Khan Al Shieh near Damascus and subjected to shelling with explosive barrels and heavy artillery several days ago.

Save the Children added that three thousand children among 12 thousand Syrian citizens face a mounting humanitarian crisis in Khan Al Shieh area that is besieged by the Syrian regime forces from all sides, while all roads are closed and targeted with artillery shells and bullets of snipers. The number of children in Khan Al Shieh camp now is approximately three thousand children, according to Jafra center.

It is noteworthy that the Jafra Foundation Center is for Relief and Development of Youth working to alleviate human suffering in emergencies and disasters and contribute to raising the standard of living in the Palestinian refugee camps in Syria and activate the various segments of the community through Purposeful projects and activities.
