3 Deaths and 5 Injuries among Palestinian Refugees due to Shelling of Khan Al Shieh Camp

Three victims and a number of injuries among the Palestinian refugees due to the shelling that targeted Khan Al Shieh camp by Russian and Syrian warplanes on Sunday night 4 July 2016.  The AGPS correspondent reported that the two Palestinian refugees, Mahmoud Umar and Mahmoud Saed Mohammed (Abu Suhaib) surnamed as Abu Hussein, from Yarmouk, died due to the shelling that targeted Khan Al Shieh camp.

The Russian warplanes targeted the center of Khan Al Shieh camp in Damascus suburb, and the vicinity of Kazeh area which resulted in complete destruction of the Child Protection Center of Jafra institution. The shelling resulted in massive damages of civilian houses, panic among residents, and a number of deaths and injuries.

The AGPS correspondent reported that five civilians were injured, including two serious injuries, who were subjected to a surgery in the abdomen and chest. Doctors were forced to amputate the arm of one of the injured, while a torn scalp was restored.

Khan Al Shieh camp in the western Ghouta of the capital Damascus is considered one of the largest Palestinian refugee compounds on the Syrian territory. The camp is inhabited with more than 30,000 people; more than half of them were displaced due to the ongoing conflict in Syria. At the same time, about 4,000 people were displaced from towns and cities of western Ghouta, such Maadameyat al-Sham and Daria to Khan Al Shieh camp due to the deteriorating security conditions.

The camp is suffering from difficult humanitarian conditions as a result of the imposed partial siege, in addition to its location at the confrontation line of the conflict parties. The camp is suffering of severe shortage of health and medical services, and large damage of infrastructure and services,

The most prominent suffering is the lack of protection or neutralization of civilians and civilian facilities of the camp.
