Delay of Family Reunion Procedures in Sweden Doubles the Suffering of Palestinian Syrian Families at Asylum Countries

Hundreds of Palestinian Syrian families in Lebanon, Turkey, and Egypt are suffering of delayed procedures of family reunion in the Kingdom of Sweden. The procedures sometimes may up to more than 18 months, which doubles the psychological and physical pressure on those families, where the house rent in Turkey and Lebanon up to about ($ 450) per month, in addition to the high cost of living, and lack of clarity of the legal status of those families, especially with respect to residency and freedom of movement.

The Swedish Immigration Service attributes delays with what they described as enormous pressure on them and their employees which leads to delayed reunion procedures of all refugees, including Palestinians of Syria.

For their part, many Palestinian Syrian refugees in Sweden confirmed that the delay comes within undeclared policy by the Swedish government aims to make Sweden as unwanted point for refugees, as part of several actions taken by Sweden, including issuing restrict laws and legislation for asylum, such as to stop granting permanent residencies, and replace it with a period of 13 months, or (3) years.
