A number of Palestinian Syrian activists in Lebanon confirmed to the AGPS reporter that a state of anger and resentment spread among the Palestinians of Syria in Lebanon after UNRWA updated the data of the Palestinian Syrian families in Lebanon on July 25. The state of anger came following the conditions that were developed by UNRWA to update those data, describing those conditions as impossible, where UNRWA requested all family members to attend personally to its statistics centers. UNRWA also requested to bring documents proving residency in Syria before March 2011, such as electricity or phone receipts, a lease, a school certificate for children, as well as other personal documents.
They also called for rejection of the arbitrary UNRWA's decision, according to their expression, which stated to re-registration of Palestinian Syrian refugees in Lebanon. They considered that the decision of attending the whole family with electricity and water bill carries the ultimate humiliation of refugees, stressing that as long as head of the family provides UNRWA with all identity papers, why to insist on certain conditions, which do not provide or delay in the census process.
In turn, the Monitoring Committee of the Palestine Syrian refugees in the East and the West Beqaa called the Palestinians of Syria in Lebanon to sit-in on the day that is determined by UNRWA for re-registration. They also demanded UNRWA to rescind these unjust conditions or to modify them, as they called the Palestinian refugees not to go to the UNRWA offices, but UNRWA is the one who must go to the refugees' houses
It should be noted that the UNRWA updated the data of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon in June 2015, through field visits to their homes, and contact them by telephone.
Palestinian Syrian refugees in Lebanon, who are estimated with 42,000, according to UNRWA statistics, are suffering from the complex crises; the most prominent are legal and economic crises, where the Lebanese authorities have taken strict procedures against them especially with regard to their entry into Lebanon and the possibility of extending their residency.
Many families were dispersed because of these actions, in addition, they are suffering of high cost of living in general, and rent of homes in particular, in addition to the lack of work in Lebanon, for several reasons, including the legal situation and the spread of unemployment.
