PRC Urged UNRWA to Immediately Intervene and Allow the Entry of Humanitarian Aid to Khan Al Shieh Camp

Palestinian Return Centre _London urged UNRWA to immediately intervene and save the situation from further deterioration within Khan Al Shieh camp in Damascus western suburb, and to avoid the camp the same fate of the Yarmouk camp south of the capital Damascus.

In a letter that was addressed on Friday 22/07/2016 by PRC to UNRWA Commissioner-General Pierre Krenpol about the humanitarian situation in Khan Al Shieh camp, demanding UNRWA to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid, to exercise its powers as holder of mandate on the Palestinian refugees, networking with other international organizations and facilitate the entry of aid, led by the Office of the UN Coordination of humanitarian Affairs.

The center also stressed, in his speech, the need to increase the operational capacity of the UNRWA clinic in Khan Al Shieh camp, and to open mini operations and aid room to receive patients and wounded and to provide them with medicines, noting that the camp has about 3000 children and 12,000 civilians in need of medical care and first aid, as well as humanitarian aid.

The letter stressed on the important of delivering financial aid of UNRWA inside Khan Al Shieh camp, and to avoid the residents the danger of arrest and killing while heading to the capital Damascus during receiving aid.

 The AGPS issued a statement demanding the Syrian government to break the siege imposed on the camp, to open all roads, to immediately allow the entry of medical teams in order to rescue the injured and to provide aid and medical services ambulance necessary and called on the international medical services. The AGPS called the international community to commit to its role of keeping international peace and security, and to put pressure on the conflict parties in Syria to neutralize the Palestinian camps and to provide protection for Palestinian refugees for being refugee camps recognized by the UNRWA.

The Syrian warplanes intensified strikes since the beginning of last month which resulted in dozens of victims and injuries, in addition to sever destruction of civilians' houses.

The AGPS documented 178 victims among the residents of Khan Al Shieh camp who died since the beginning of war events in Syria.

Furthermore, families of more than (1089) Palestinian Syrian detainees in the regime's prisons are suffering from absence of any information about the fate of their children, without mentioning places or reasons for their arrest or any information about their health status.
