A Statement that Condemns the Frequent Attacks on Civilians and Insures that the Camp is Empty of Armed Men and Weapons

In the same context, the local council in Khan Al Sheih town issued a statement to condemn the frequent attacks on civilians; the council refers to the military escalation by the Syrian regime forces and the warplanes who are available in the surrounding areas. The attacks on Khan Al Sheih camp continue despite the declaration of the military factions that they don’t have any member in the camp.

The statement clarified that the military escalation against the civilians in the camp started in June 19, 2016, where the Russian warplanes targeted the camp with 28 airstrikes using cluster and thermobaric bombs. The Syrian Regime also targeted the camp with 6 explosive barrels, two land rockets in addition to 24 artillery shells which led to 18 victims and 72 injured people in addition to destroying 38 houses.

The Council insured that the regime continues to tighten on the residents of the camp through targeting the only road, which was called the death road due to the residents faced when trying to enter materials to the camp.

Based on the foregoing, some news were reported about that the United Nations trying to reach humanitarian aid to Khan Al Sheih Camp but due to the bombing and war machine they were not able to continue the operation of reaching aid to the rescinds . It is noted that the residents suffer from many difficulties in getting their aid from UNRWA centers due to the dangerous roads security challenges that they face when trying to get out of the camp such as bombing, sniping and detention on one of the checkpoints.

The Council in Khan Al Sheih town demands to stop all military operations, to allow the access of the humanitarian aid, and to enable the United Nations including UNRWA to examine the situation inside the camp and carry out the overall needs assessment. Also to allow the assessment the humanitarian situation to continue providing the residents and not surprising the world of creating another Yarmouk or Madaya.
