Cornell University in USA Hosts the Palestinian Syrian Writer Rama Haider from Yarmouk Camp

In New York, Applied Media Arts Department at Cornell University, hosts tragedy and black comedy by the Palestinian-Syrian writer "Rama Haider" under the name of "Desert Light", and it will be performed in 22-23-and 24 of September in Squartz Center in Flex Theater for Applied Arts.

The events of the Play take place in the Yarmouk camp for the Palestinian refugee, where two Palestinians-Syrians (in twenties) talk about the best way to escape the camp due to the siege. Eventually, it blows the meaning of love, resistance, and exile with the sudden devastating humor and frankness.

The organizers hope that the American public will see this Palestinian - Syrian figures, as "not only a unique people involved in personal and historical conflicts, but also they represent the low-class people whether men or women all over the world.

Footage of the “Desert Light” was displayed in Theater between Homeland, and exile Forum, new Palestinian voices as a part of Raourient Festival in San Francisco, 2015, the co-production with Theater Without Borders.

The forum was supported, and the “Desert Light” was translated through a donation by Building Bridges Program, Doris Duke Foundation.

It is noteworthy that the Palestinian communities are active in the Diaspora through art exhibitions, conferences, and seminars in attempts to bring the suffering of the Palestinian refugees, particularly in Syria and the Palestinian refugee camps. In addition to death boats that were used by refugees to reach the countries of asylum, as well as to maintain the identity of the Palestinian refugees from melting in the European communities.
