Palestinian-Syrian refugee nominated for Sodertalje Award in Sweden

The Palestinian Syrian refugee Ahmad Hamzat was nominated for the Sodertalje Creativity and Integration Award in Sweden for his so-called “Language Friend Sprakvan” project.

Hamzat said the idea of the project came to him as soon as he reckoned the difficulties faced by the Palestinians of Syria to learn the Swedish Language.

“The ‘Sprakvan’ initiative enables refugees to learn Swedish through authentic integration in and communication with the host society via face-to-face interaction,” said Hamzat.

A former resident of Yarmouk, Hamzat was displaced to Sweden, where he learned Swedish in six months.
