Over 120,000 Palestinian refugees from Syria (PRS) have fled the country, including around 31,850 to Lebanon, according to UNRWA statistics until December 2016.
The data was released as part of the Syria Emergency Appeal for 2017 launched by UNRWA on Sunday in the presence of the agency’s Director-General in Lebanon, Hakam Shahwani, and the former Director-General, Matthias Schmale.
Of the estimated 450,000 Palestine refugees that remain inside Syria, over 95 per cent (430,000) are in critical need of sustained humanitarian assistance in order to survive, UNRWA warned.
According to the agency, almost 280,000 are internally displaced, and an estimated 43,000 are trapped in hard-to-reach or inaccessible locations.
UNRWA figures fall in line with AGPS expectations as regards the projected nosepe in the number of Palestinians of Syria in Lebanon from 42,000 to about 30,000 in 2017.
