Several Palestinian families in Deraa province have sought shelter in dairy farms and sheep ranches as their homes have become unsafe due to the raging warfare and bloody hostilities.
Having no place to run to or shelter to hide into, dozens of Palestinian refugees, who have been wondering down and out in streets, have turned to the uninhabitable Syrian-Libyan cattle farm as they hunted for a safer refuge for their traumatized children.
Located in Gileen town, lying some 25 km away from western Deraa, the Syrian-Libyan dairy farm was seized by an Islamic faction after it was shut down following the outburst of the Syrian warfare.
Some 500 displaced families from Yarmouk, Abtaa, Dael, and Atman have been taking cover in the makeshift sanctuary pitched by Deraa’s anti-government local council.
AGPS correspondent said the makeshift tents are not fit to live in. At times of torrential downpours, many of those ramshackle tents just fall apart while others barely resist the heavy rainfall swamping the shelter.
Even those who have had had the chance to dwell in stone-walled farmsteads have not been safe from the perilous fallouts of the wintry weather.
Chronic power and water blackouts, along with the propagation of lethal infections, the lack of medical care, absence of relief assistance by UNRWA and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) have made the sanctuary a miserable place to live in.
Those taking refuge in the farm called on the UNRWA and all other concerned bodies to urgently step and immediately work out the crisis.
