Displaced Palestinian families from Syria taking shelter in the Lebanese Bekaa Valley have been enduring calamitous socio-economic conditions due to the harsh weather conditions and sub-zero temperatures, often swiftly dipping to a record low of 12 below zero.
Over recent years, several zinc roofs and makeshift tents, particularly those overseeing the sea, have been blown away by heavy windstorms.
According to local activists, relief initiatives have reached a hiatus due to the refugees’ growing need of fuel and firewood.
Efforts by UNRWA and other charities to work out the crisis have also been scanty in the face of the abrupt temperature nosepe rocking the region.
Some 850 Palestinian families, among 33,000 Palestinian refugees housed in Lebanon, have sought shelter in the Bekaa Valley.
