Palestinians from Syria in Lebanon Shorn of Legal Protection

Palestinian refugees from Syria in Lebanon have launched cries for help over the precarious legal status and lack of protection they have been made to endure in the Lebanese territories.

60% of Palestinians from Syria are grappling with deportation concerns while 67% live in a perpetual fear over their families’ safety. 80% said they feel insecure due to the mayhem rocking the region.

At the same time, the Lebanese authorities continue to rebuff appeals for renewing the residence permits of those who entered Lebanon after 2015, blacklisting them as “illegal immigrants” and ruling for their immediate deportation in no more than 15 days.

On Monday, September 19, 2016, the Lebanese authorities stipulated that every single refugee who overstays his visa in Lebanon has to shell out $200 to get a renewed six-month permit.
