13 Palestinians stranded in Thailand’s lock-ups for overstaying their visas appealed to the Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas to hold contacts with the Thai government so as to release them at the soonest time possible.
Dozens of Palestinian and Syrian refugees from Syria have been grappling with dire conditions in Thailand, according to a testimony by a refugee held in I.D.C jail in Bangkok.
According to the same source, three families and three women, along with elderly refugees and young men are locked up in I.D.C detention center for overstaying their visas.
The list of stranded refugees included 75-year-old Majed Maarouf Melhem and his three daughters Muntaha, Maha, and Nahad. Kan’an Aziz Melhem (formerly sheltered in Yarmouk Camp, in Damascus), Mohamed Younis Abu Harb (from Khan AlSheih Camp, in Rif Dimashq), Sultan Afif Ahmad, Ayham Ibrahim Younis, Mohamed Kheir Ahmad Azimeh, Muhannad Yassin, Omar Thaer Saleh, Ahmad Abdul Rahman al-Nawajha, and Shadi Amjad al-Nawajha also figure on the list.
Refugees trapped in I.D.C have been subjected to over-crowdedness and poor-quality food, along with the lack of hygiene and ventilation.
“We’ve fallen prey to skin diseases as we’ve not seen the sun for a long period of time,” said a trapped Palestinian refugee from Syria in a letter emailed to AGPS.
