Overnight Clashes Rock Yarmouk Camp, ISIS Unblocks Yalda Access Road

At predawn on Monday, violent clashes flared up in Yarmouk between ISIS militias and pro-government battalions on the crossroads to Palestine Street, Yarmouk municipality, and AlKara’in sector.

Heavy machineguns and RPJ rocket-propelled grenades were used in the raging hostilities. At the same time, the government forces and their war abettors struck the clash scene with missiles, inflicting serious damage on civilian homes.

Clashes between ISIS and Tahrir AlSham Commission (formerly known as AlNusra Front) have been ongoing since April 6, 2016, after ISIS grabbed hold of large parts of Yarmouk.

Meanwhile, ISIS squads deployed at a checkpoint between Yarmouk Camp and Yalda town unblocked the roadblock after they closed it off on Sunday for unknown reasons. The move was announced shortly after Yarmouk residents reached out to the armed groups in Yalda over civilians’ urgent need to gain access out of and into Yarmouk.

Yalda-Yarmouk thoroughfare had been frequently blocked by armed militias in the area after opposition outfits held ISIS fighters in Yarmouk and AlHajar AlAswad accountable for the assassination of a number of opposition affiliates along with activists in Yalda.
