An Austrian court sentenced the Palestinian Syrian refugee (B-B), from Al-Aedein camp in Homs, imprisonment for life in charges of committing war crimes in Syria.
According to the BBC, Austria issued the first sentence on charges of war crimes in Syria against a Palestinian Syrian young man, a member of the Faruq battalion of the armed groups "Free Army" which is opposes the Syrian regime. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder Twenty unarmed government soldiers, including injuries.
The BBC reported that the incident occurred in the battles of Homs, while Austrian media said that the accused refugee, who was not revealed, was boasting to other asylum seekers that he is belonging to an armed group and that he killed and injured unarmed soldiers in Syria.
After being arrest, the suspect initially admitted the killings between 2013 and 2014 in Homs (western Syria), but he retreated from his confession, saying his testimony had been misinterpreted.
However, the translator denied this and testified before the court. "The defendant told me that he opened fire against severely wounded soldiers and asked him to repeat his words and he did," the refugee's lawyer said that he will appeal.
This is the first case in Austria involving the killing of pro-Syrian regime forces.
