Entire families have left Syria headed to Brazil, and others on the way… families of elderly, children, and university students' youth and others, families escaped the death in the Palestinian camps, roaming in the Brazilian streets and cities, families searching for bread, neither the Palestinian Embassy nor the General Union for Palestinian Institutions know their numbers. The National Committee for Refugees "CONARE" announced that 1794 refugees from Syria have arrived to Brazil till the end of 2014, and did not mention whether this number includes Palestinians and Syrians or just Syrians.
As these families arrived to Brazil, they found kindness and compassion by the Brazilian government, as it granted them IDs for residencies and work. The Palestinian ambassador met with some Palestinian refugees, when the first group of refugees arrived about a year ago, where there was news about the arrival of almost 40 Palestinian refugees from Syria. During a phone call, Mr. Afifi said,” we are men have no families but have mercy with thefamilies, children and women", this call was about a year ago.
The refugees resorted to the mosques of São Paulo city for days until they found another place, then they were asked to leave, Brazilian families received them in their own houses and provided them with food. During a phone call, Mr. Nizar said that his neighbor, a taxi driver, accompanied him to the police station, followed-up and took care of them. Mr. Nizar has arrived to Brazil about a month ago with his wife, his two daughters"6-9 years", his 70 years mother, and his nephew; they have no work, unable to afford the rent of the house, have no money, his wife and mother have diseases and need treatments.
Another family lives in Araçatuba city in São Paulo, the one who called the family reported that the family sleeps in a public garden and sell some fast food to secure money, we tried and we were not able to contact this family.
There are many Palestinians who married Brazilian women in order to secure a shelter and they now live in Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, and MatoGrosso states.
A refugee in Brazil recommends to reform an assembly for help, guidance, and consult, what to do? A simple question, but the absence of the assembly and the officials made it impossible to achieve.
Some Palestinian refugees in Brazil informed us that some employees from the Israeli embassy contacted with them and asked them if they need any help and gave them the Israeli embassy's telephone numbers, and even they reached the mosques to talk with the refugees who came from Syria.
There are connections and communications with the Palestinian ambassador in order to find a solution for some families to alleviate their suffering and the need to intensify the work in order to get it done. The Palestinian embassy should assume its responsibilities and to demand the Union, which is not concerned, to assume its responsibilities as well, where an email was sent to the President of the General Union for Palestinian Institutionsto inform him with this subject and there is no response so far, which expresses that there is no interest in the matter.
There is no Palestinian Assembly in São Paulo, it was sold, but there is a huge Palestinian community with great economic potentials which can absorb some workers, but this needs a joint action combines the Embassy, representatives of the General Union of Palestinian Institutions,some Palestinian institutions, and some people of the Palestinian community.
We don't have to judge according to some little disadvantages or behaviors, but the loss of hope, fatigue, oppression, and injustice may be understood as disadvantages but this is not a measure to give up our duties towards our people and our children. The Palestinian embassy must have answers about all inquiries and questions, as well as the embassy, which also has strong and concrete relationships with some of the people of the community in many cities and states, should demand to invite and meet with them in order to find solutions even temporarily for many families.
The embassy should not wait to be invited in order to take action to create a state of solidarity with the oppressed families, the embassy is required to act immediately and this is its duty.
