AGPS Condemns Deadly Offensives on Palestinians Sheltered in Daraa, Calls for Saving Wounded Civilians

AGPS condemns, in the strongest terms, the deadly onslaughts targeting Palestinian refugee camps and the incessant human rights violations perpetrated against the Palestinian refugee community in war-ravaged Syria.

AGPS calls on all warring actors to observe international laws and treaties and to cease offensives on the displaced civilians and refugees in and around Daraa city.

AGPS calls for neutralizing civilians and granting paramedics a safe passageway into the area so as to evacuate the victims and treat the wounded persons.

AGPS urges the international community and UNRWA to assume their duties vis-à-vis the ongoing crisis, to work on providing Palestinian refugees with the physical and legal protection needed to survive warfare, and to pressurize all warring parties to keep Palestinian camps and communities at bay from the rampant hostilities.

AGPS further appeals to the Palestinian Authority, chaired by Mahmoud Abbas, and the Palestine Liberation Organization, along with the Islamic and national parties, to take up their historical responsibility regarding the Palestinian Diaspora.

AGPS is deeply concerned over the tragic situation in Daraa due to the unabated shelling and air strikes launched by the Syrian government army on opposition-led zones using internationally-prohibited weapons, including napalm grenades, cluster bombs, and explosive barrels. As a result, 80% of civilian buildings and facilities have been razed to the ground.

Offensives rocking Daraa city since the outburst of the Syrian warfare claimed the lives of 375 Palestinians sheltered in the area. The majority of civilians fled Daraa Camp in the hunt for a safer shelter. UNRWA facilities in the camp also sustained heavy material damage.
